In the near future Nonlogic will be setting up a distributed library for all of its members to use. A distributed library means that there is no central location where books are kept, each contributor to the library is also a librarian. Each contributor will be able to list books that they have and are willing to donate to the library, they will be responsible for ensuring that books in their possession that are checked out are sent to that person.

Why are we doing this?

MySQL solves a bunch of problems for us. I have noticed the following problems with our authentication system:

	* We cannot tell when users were added easily
	* 300+ users is very hard to manage with /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow
	* There is no reasonable way to keep track of user bans, a point system makes this automatic
	* We can easily attach more data to a user than is possible with the standard unix authentication (notes, etc)
	* This is much cooler!

MySQL-based cron

Description

Lets make a cron-job system based on MySQL. Since our authentication is MySQL based why not cron? This would make it easier to manage things.’’’
